Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries and raspberries mingled with hints of rose petal and spices, the 2020 Mondot is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a pure, seamless core of vibrant fruit and a long, succulent finish. Derived from Merlot growing on recently acquired vineyards on Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau, some 40% of the blend is matured in tank, with the rest in once-used barriques.

The 2018 Cap St. George is ripe, plummy and explosive, with tremendous fruit density to match its exuberant personality. Super-ripe red cherry, new oak and sweet spice add raciness. The 2020 De Fonbel is bright, punchy and bursting with fruit. Sweet floral accents lift a core of red berry fruit in a soft, caressing Saint-Émilion that will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. The 2020 is an absolute delight. I imagine this charming, mid-weight Saint-Émilion will drink well for another 10-15 years. Today, it is absolutely delicious. I especially like the energy here.

Dominique Hébrard war früher Miteigentümer von Chateau Cheval Blanc, das seit 1832 im Besitz seiner Familie war. Er war verantwortlich für den Weinberg, die Weinbereitung und die Vermarktung der Weine. Im Dezember 2000 kaufte er Château Trianon, einen Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Die hier angebauten Rebsorten sind klassisch, 80% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon und 2% Carmenere, eine alte Rebsorte aus dem Bordeaux-Gebiet, die in der Region nicht mehr in nennenswerten Mengen angebaut wird. Carmenere verleiht der Cuvee eine intensive Farbe und trägt zu ihrer aromatischen Komplexität bei.

The 2020 Distique 13 is the best wine I have tasted from Mangot in some time, perhaps ever. Vibrant and explosive, the 2020 offers up blueberry jam, graphite, crushed rocks, lavender, licorice and exotic spice. Distique 13 remains an unabashedly opulent, full-throttle wine, but in this vintage there is a good kick of energy that lends balance and proportion.
