The 2018 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is fabulous, just as it was from barrel. Strong Cabernet inflections soar out of the glass, giving the wine a compelling aromatic profile laced with the essence of graphite, dried herbs, menthol and dark fruit. One of the most classic (for lack of a better word) wines in the Left Bank in 2018, Grand-Puy-Lacoste is super-impressive right out of the gate. Grand-Puy-Lacoste is ultimately a wine of tremendous class that remains restrained and aristocratic in breeding. Don't miss it.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Schwarze Beeren, zart nach Cassis, etwas Nougat, feine Edelholznuancen, ein Hauch von Zedern, facettenreiches Bukett. Saftig, feine Extraktsüße, reife Herzkirschen, integrierte Tannine, frische Säurestruktur, mineralischer Nachhall, zeigt gute Länge und sicheres Entwicklungspotenzial. (2025–2045)

Juicy and compact now, with dark currant, blackberry and fig notes at the core, surrounded by lots of warm earth, singed alder and tobacco leaf notes. Cast iron note helps extend the finish, with the fruit and earth notes keeping pace. Has a slight throwback feel, so if you like old school, ageworthy Pauillac, this is your wine. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2024 through 2038. 10,000 cases made. –JM

Dichtes Purpur mit satter Mitte und rubinroten Reflexen. Delikates Bouquet mit reifen Schattenmorellen und rotem Johannisbeersaft, dahinter heller Tabak, Heidekraut und getrockneter Rosmarin. Am sublimen Gaumen mit cremiger Textur, anschmiegsamen perfekt unterlegten Tannin und einer tänzerischen Rasse. Im gebündelten Finale verschlankt sich der Pauillac, zarte Anklänge an Graphit und rotbeerige Konturen. Anmutig wie ein Violinkonzert in C-Dur von Haydn begeistert mich diese Schönheit. Für die nächsthöhere Wertung reicht es (noch) nicht ganz.

Über Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste

The history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is fascinating in many ways. It is a family saga going back to the 16th century. The name Grand-Puy, already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, comes from the ancient term "puy” which means "hillock, small height”. True to its name, the vineyard sits on outcrops with a terroir similar to that of the Médoc's first growths. From Since the 16th century the property remained attached to a single family from generation to generation, in a direct line through marriage until 1920, before connecting with another family in 1978 - the Borie.
