Exactly ten years after the famous black and gold bottle that held the 2012 vintage, the 2022 vintage of Château Angelus will go down in the history of the estate with an infinitely precious bottle in which enamel offers the most beautiful setting for gold and the motifs, inspired by the constellations and revolutions of the stars, are a poetic evocation of the start of a new cycle. By virtue of its exceptional quality, “Le Majestueux” was already destined for a brilliant future. But it also bears the year 2022, which marks a milestone in the history of Angelus. It required a tribute to match this planetary alignment and the immeasurable scale of this extraordinary wine. “After ten years at the pinnacle of Saint-Émilion wines, the time had come for Château Angelus to pursue its unique path by freeing itself from certain normative constraints, and to enter another dimension, that of a history entirely determined by infinitely demanding standards and a quest for excellence down to the smallest detail” says Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, Chairwoman of Angelus.

So many beautiful primary fruit aromas. Al dente. Peaches. Very floral. Aromatic. Full-bodied and extremely fine tannins with length and beauty that show incredible depth. Superb brightness and reality. Exciting. Cabernet franc freshness and dynamics come through now, even though the blend is 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc.

Deeply colored, the wine is all about its elegance in the texture. The fruits offer a level of purity and refinement that was not present in older vintages. Perfectly balanced, vibrant, long and intense, the wine is incredibly sensuous, velvety, and silky. The level of concentration remains, but the sensation here is now one of sensuality, balance, and sophistication. The silky, pure, red and black pit fruits with a cool touch of orange rind remain with you for close to 60 seconds. Fermentation at cooler temperatures and no sulfur during the fermentations helped maintain the wines elegance and purity. The wine blends 60% Merlot, and 40% Cabernet Franc, 14.5% ABV, 3.65 pH. Harvesting took place, September 6 - September 28. Drink from 2027-2060. 98-100 Pts.

Der Weinberg des Château Angélus befindet sich in einem natürlichen Amphitheater, das von den drei Saint-Emilion-Kirchen überragt wird. Michel de Boüard de Laforest, Historiker, Chartist und Rektor der Akademie von Caen, erkundete die Ursprünge seiner Familie. Der früheste Hinweis auf seinen Stammbaum war Georges Boüard, geboren 1544, Bourgeois und Jurat der Stadt Bordeaux. Der Angélus-Stil resultiert aus der Kombination mutiger Entscheidungen über Rebsorten und einem hervorragenden Terroir. Es ist dieser einzigartige Charakter, der aus den nach Süden ausgerichteten Hängen von Saint-Emilion mit seinem hohen Anteil an Cabernet Franc geboren wurde. Es ist auch eine Komposition, die jedes Jahr auf der Suche nach Spitzenleistungen neu gestaltet wird. Der Weinberg von Angélus wächst in einem natürlichen Amphitheater an einem Südhang von Saint-Emilion und an seinem Fuß, wo sich die Sommertemperaturen konzentrieren und wo das Wachstum früher beginnt. Der Boden wird natürlich durch den Hang entwässert. Eine gute Verteilung von Kalkstein und Ton von 8 bis 20% sorgt für eine regelmäßige Versorgung mit Wasser und Mineralien. Die Wurzelstöcke der Reben sind ideal für dieses Terroir geeignet und die Rebsorten sind nach Bodentypen verteilt: Merlot auf dem Hügel, wo es mehr Lehm und Cabernet Franc auf den sandigen Lehm-Kalkstein-Böden am Fuße des Hügels gibt.
