Grange ist der ikonische Flaggschiff-Rotwein von Penfolds. Er wird aus sorgfältig ausgewählten Shiraz-Trauben hergestellt, die hauptsächlich aus dem Barossa Valley stammen, mit einer kleinen Menge Cabernet Sauvignon. Grange wurde 1951 geboren und stellt die außergewöhnliche Blending-Kompetenz von Penfolds unter Beweis. Grange gilt weithin als Australiens Spitzenwein und ist offiziell als Kulturerbe-Ikone Südaustraliens anerkannt. 97% Shiraz, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dark, dank and immaculate. The oak handling and tannic precision boast ample class. Beneath lurks a latent, molten beauty that will unravel eventually. I like this Grange. I feel that the decadent style, molten and fleshy, is well suited to the drought vintage and its thick grape skin tannic scour. Mercifully, the tannins are pliant and despite it all, plenty juicy. Firework aromas of raspberry liqueur, camphor and gunpowder, with a smear of black olive, licorella and hung meat wafting across the long finish. Best from 2030.

Intense, concentrated, powerful, beautifully precise and poised, flicking its brilliance one step at a time. Liqourice and dark mint chocolate, this need time to unroll, so I suggest plenty of time in a carafe to reveal its stunning depths. Weitere Informationen über das Weingut Penfolds
Wie viele Weingüter hat auch Penfolds einmal klein angefangen. Das alteingesessene Weingut wurde 1844 von dem englischen Arzt Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold gegründet, der seinen Patienten Wein als Gesundheitstonikum empfahl. Die Reben pflanzte er in Magill, neun Kilometer von Adelaide entfernt, im Süden Australiens. Magill Estate ist heute noch Hauptsitz des Hauses. Bis zum Jahr 1962 wurde das Gut von Rawson Penfolds Nachfahren weitergeführt. Seit 2002 wird auch der Grange wieder auf Magill Estate vinifiziert.
