Espresso, flowers cocoa and black plums with a touch of spice open the nose. The wine is juicy, and flavorful, offering a big blast of chewy. dark, red fruits, cocoa and espresso on the mid-palate and in the spicy, fresh finish. The wine is interesting as you often find as much as 50% of the blend devoted to old vine Petit Verdot along with Merlot. Drink from 2023-2038.

A blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Petit Verdot, weighing in with an alcohol of 13.5%, the 2020 Bolaire has a deep purple-black color and has scents of black raspberries, mulberries and plum preserves, plus suggestions of tar, truffles, black olives and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate delivers a refreshing backbone and well-managed, approachable tannins to frame the juicy, earth-laced black fruits, finishing with a peppery kick.

The 2020 Bolaire has a fresh, quite lively bouquet of blackberry and wild hedgerow, hints of cedar and lavender emerging with aeration. There is real gusto here. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet black plum, boysenberry and candied orange peel notes, and even veins of marmalade toward the finish. No, not an intellectual Bordeaux Supérieur, but I envisage this being fun to drink.
James Suckling
A firm, linear red with tightness and brightness. Medium body. Bright finish.
