Deeply colored, the wine shows off its nose of licorice, flowers, red pit fruits and crushed rocks effortlessly. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, richly textured, lush and silky, with freshness and loads of mineral-driven, red fruits and chocolate in the finish. If you are not familiar with this beauty, you should be, because this stunner sells for a song for a wine of its quality. This should drink well with just a year or two of aging (If you can wait that long.) Drink from 2024-2037.

The 2020 Alcée has a well-defined bouquet, nicely controlled, featuring crisp blackberry, briar, undergrowth and very subtle marmalade aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly edgy tannins that lend this Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux a Left Bank quality. Fine salinity emerges toward the finish, completing a very assured and promising Right Bank from Nicolas Thienpont’s stable.

Nicolas Thienpont hat im Juli 2011 drei Hektar an der Côtes de Castillon erworben. Die Reben befinden sich auf der Spitze des Kalkplateaus, mit Felsen unter rotem Ton. Im Januar 2014 wuchs der Weinberg auf 6,5 Hektar mit neuen Parzellen unweit von Saint-Philippe-d’Aiguille auf einem Kalksteinplateau, das zwischen kompakten Lehm- und sehr flachen Böden wechselt. Der Wein wurde runder mit einer dichteren Textur, die die Finesse, Raffinesse und Mineralität dieses neuen Crus ergänzt.
