A fleshy, dramatic rendition of this Moulis benchmark, the 2019 Poujeaux unwinds in the glass with a deep bouquet of blackberries and plums mingled with subtle hints of cigar wrapper, loamy soil and violets. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and seamless, with succulent acids, powdery tannins and a long, expansive finish. This has turned out brilliantly and numbers among the real sleepers of the vintage.

The 2019 Poujeaux has a more introverted bouquet than some of its Moulis associates, though it opens nicely offering black cherries, liquorice, pressed iris petals and touches of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. This Poujeaux has good backbone, almost Pauillac-like in style with a dense and persistent finish that augers for a long-term wine that will repay those with the nous to cellar it a few years. Superb.

Very attractive chocolate, red-chili and cedar aromas and flavors. Lavender, too. Medium body with firm, polished tannins and a caressing finish. Pretty texture to this. It will be ready sooner than some. Try after 2024.

Schon ab 16. Jahrhundert war dieses Anwesen unter dem Namen La Salle de Poujeaux bekannt und war ein Vorwerk des heutigen Château Latour. 1806 konnte ein Herr Castaing dieses Gut erstehen, das 1880 dreigeteilt wurde. 1921 kaufte François Theil 1/3 und vinifizierte ab 1957 seinen Wein selbst. Im Laufe der Jahre gelang es ihm, die beiden übrigen Teile zu erwerben, so dass es wieder einen einzigen Betrieb wie vor 1880 gibt. Es wurden beträchtliche Investitionen getätigt: die Keller wurden von Grund auf erneuert, die Tanks sind nun temperaturgeregelt, der Wein reift in neuen Eichenholzfässern aus, die Parzellen für den Hauptwein werden immer strenger ausgewählt, weil Qualität auf Châteu Poujeaux Vorrang hat.
